الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
إيّاكَ وما يُستَهجَنُ مِن الكلامِ؛ فإنّهُ يَحبِسُ علَيكَ اللِّئامَ ويُنَفِّرُ عنكَ الكِرامَ.
Imam Ali (as):
Beware of using obscene language, for it confines you to vile people and dispels honourable people from around you.

إِيَّاكَ وَ مُسْتَهْجَنَ الْكَلَامِ فَإِنَّهُ يُوغِرُ الْقَلْبَ [الْقُلُوبَ]

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
مَعاشِرَ الشِّيعَةِ، كونوا لنازَينا ولا تكونوا علَينا شَينا، قولوا لِلناسِ حُسنا، واحفَظُوا ألسِنَتَكُم، وكُفُّوها عنِ الفُضولِ وقَبيحِ القَولِ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
O followers (Shia) of ours, be an adornment for us and do not be a disgrace to us. Speak well to people, protect your tongues, and prevent it from futile and vulgar speech.
