Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as): Whoever empowers three things over three other things, is as if he has facilitated the destruction of his intellect: he who darkens the light of his thinking with high hopes, obliterates the beauty of his wisdom with excessive speech and extinguishes the light produced through taking lessons with the lust of his soul is as if he has aided his desire with destroying his intellect, and whoever destroys his intellect corrupts his religion as well as his worldly life. al-Kāfī
