Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as): Every single thing has a measure or weight except for tears; for even one drop of tears can extinguish seas of fire. When one's eyes are filled with tears, neither gloom nor shame will come over his face, and when tears start to role down from one's cheeks, God will make it forbidden for the fire to touch them, and when someone from among a community weeps, God bestows His mercy on the entire community. al-Kāfī
