Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as): A person commits a sin after which a feeling of remorse overtakes him; thereafter, he performs a good deed, which makes him happy and thus, the feeling of remorse departs him. Had he stayed in the state of remorse, it would have been better for him than the state of happiness he is experiencing. al-Kāfī
