Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as): What prevents one among you from doing good to his parents, be them alive or dead? Such that he performs prayers, gives charity, performs Hajj, and fasts on their behalf, in which case he has both done good to them and will also have the same reward for himself, and Allah will multiply his reward for his righteousness and goodness. al-Kāfī
