الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
إِنَّ عِيسَى اِبْنَ مَرْيَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ قَالَ دَاوَيْتُ اَلْمَرْضَى فَشَفَيْتُهُمْ بِإِذْنِ اَللَّهِ وَ أَبْرَأْتُ اَلْأَكْمَهَ وَ اَلْأَبْرَصَ بِإِذْنِ اَللَّهِ وَ عَالَجْتُ اَلْمَوْتَى فَأَحْيَيْتُهُمْ بِإِذْنِ اَللَّهِ وَ عَالَجْتُ اَلْأَحْمَقَ فَلَمْ أَقْدِرْ عَلَى إِصْلاَحِهِ فَقِيلَ يَا رُوحَ اَللَّهِ وَ مَا اَلْأَحْمَقُ قَالَ اَلْمُعْجَبُ بِرَأْيِهِ وَ نَفْسِهِ اَلَّذِي يَرَى اَلْفَضْلَ كُلَّهُ لَهُ لاَ عَلَيْهِ وَ يُوجِبُ اَلْحَقَّ كُلَّهُ لِنَفْسِهِ وَ لاَ يُوجِبُ عَلَيْهَا حَقّاً فَذَلِكَ اَلْأَحْمَقُ اَلَّذِي لاَ حِيلَةَ فِي مُدَاوَاتِهِ .

اَلْقُلُوبُ إِذَا لَمْ تَخْرِقْهَا اَلشَّهَوَاتُ أَوْ يُدَنِّسْهَا اَلطَّمَعُ أَوْ يُقْسِهَا اَلنَّعِيمُ فَسَوْفَ تَكُونُ أَوْعِيَةَ اَلْحِكْمَةِ

از ماندگارترین و مفیدترین و هدایت‌گرترین گنجینه‌‏هاى معنوى تشیّع وصیّت‏‌ها و نصیحت‌‏هایى است که از امامان معصوم(علیهم السلام) به یادگار مانده است، این وصیّت‏‌ها، وصیّت‏‌هاى اصطلاحى که درباره مال و اموال باشد، نیست، بلکه وصیّت‏‌هاى معنوى و اخلاقى است که جنبه موعظه و هدایت‌گرى دارد، و این هدایت‌گرى مى‌‏تواند در طول تاریخ ادامه داشته باشد.
این وصیّت‏‌ها از تک تک معصومان و امامان، از پیامبر گرفته تا حضرت مهدی(عجل الله تعالی فرجه) به دست ما رسیده است آنچه در اینجا به دنبال ارائه آن هستیم، برشی از وصیّت‏‌هاى حضرت باقر(ع) است که نسبت به برخى افراد داشته:

امام محمدباقر علیه السلام می‌فرمایند:
لا شَرَفَ كَبُعدِ الهِمَّةِ؛
شرافتى چون بلندْ همّتى نيست.

در متن کامل این روایت می‌خوانیم: «ولانعمة کالعافیة و لاعافیة کمساعدة التّوفیق، و لا شرف کبعد الهمّة ولازهد کقصر الأمل، ولا حرص کالمنافسة فى الدّرجات»
نعمتى همچون سلامتى نیست و عافیتى چون همراهى توفیق وجود ندارد، و شرف و بزرگى بسان همت بلند نیست، و زهدى چون کوتاهى آرزوها وجود ندارد، و هیچ حرصى بپاى رقابت بر سر مقام نمى‏رسد.»
