الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
إنّ الدّنيا عيشها قصير و خيرها يسير و إقبالها خديعة و إدبارها فجيعة و لذّاتها فانية و تبعاتها باقية.
Imam Ali (as):
The life of this world is but short, and its good, little, its approaching, deception, and its turning away, a catastrophe, its pleasures are transient, and its consequences, enduring.

مَن كانَ يَأمَلُ أن يَعيشَ غَدا فإنّهُ يَأمَلُ أن يَعيشَ أبَدا.

A man who expects to be alive tomorrow, [in fact] expects to be alive forever.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
خَلَقَ الآجالَ فأطالَها و قَصَّرَها، و قدَّمَها و أخَّرَها، و وصَلَ بالموتِ أسبابَها.
Imam Ali (as):
He [i.e. Allah] determined the duration [of every life] and made them short or long; He expedited some and postponed others, and connected their causes [of reaching their ends] with death.

ما أسرَعَ السّاعاتِ فِي اليَومِ، وأسرَعَ الأيّامَ فِي الشَّهرِ، وأسرَعَ الشُّهورَ فِي السَّنَةِ، وأسرَعَ السّنينَ (السَّنَةَ) فِي العُمرِ!
Imam Ali (as):
How fast the hours in a day go by, and how fast the days in a month, and how fast the months in a year, and how fast the years in a lifetime!
