Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Whoever associates with an Imam chosen by Allah, a leader whose leadership is not endorsed by Allah, [is tantamount to having] ascribed a partner to Allah.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Every act of showing off is tantamount to polytheism. Verily whoever acts for people the reward of his act is upon people [he should not expect any reward from Allah].

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Imam al-Sadiq (AS) with regards to God's verse, "Whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and never associate anyone with the service of his Lord.", said: 'A man performs a good deed through which he does not seek to please his Lord, rather he wants to earn people's admiration, wishing that people would hear about it. Such a man has associated partners in the service of his Lord.'

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Whoever gives a speaker his full attention has indeed expressed a form of worship or adulation to him. If the speaker leads one to Allah through his words, then it is as if one worships Allah [by giving him attention], but if he leads one to Satan through his words, it is as if one worships Satan.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Wrongdoing is of three types: The wrongdoing that Allah forgives, the wrongdoing that Allah does not forgive and the wrongdoing that Allah does not leave uncounted. The wrongdoing that Allah does not forgive is associating partners with Him. The wrongdoing that is forgivable is the wrong that the servant commits against himself regarding that which is between him and Allah. And the wrongdoing that is not left uncounted is when people violate each other's rights in their dealings.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Imam al-Sadiq (AS) was once asked what the absolute minimum of polytheism was, to which he replied, 'It is to contrive a ruling and because of it take side with people or against them.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Verily the Umayyads used to allow the teaching of faith to people but did not permit polytheism to be taught and clarified, so that when it came to their converting them [the people] to it, they would not be able to recognize it.
