Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Allah does not accept any act without inner knowledge [Ma'rifat] and inner knowledge only comes through prior action. So, whoever gains knowledge intrinsically, his knowledge will lead him to action, and whoever does not act does not have any inner knowledge.

Imam Ali (as):
Indeed, Jihad (i.e. combat against the self) is the price for Paradise, so whosoever combats his self, achieves paradise, which is the most noble reward of God for those who perceive its glory.

Imam Ali (as):
It is not appropriate for one who knows the Greatness of Allah to consider himself great, for verily the elevation of those who know His Greatness lies in humbling themselves before Him.
