Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
I asked Imam al-Sadiq (as) about arrogance, and he replied: 'The gravest form of arrogance in when you debase the truth and look down upon people.' I asked: 'And how does one debase the truth?' He replied: 'By being ignorant about the truth and vilifying its people.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
There are three things that if not present in someone, none of his actions will be complete: piety that prevents him from disobeying Allah, a character through which he is amicable towards people, and clemency with which he can deal with the rashness of the ignorant.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
There is no poverty more severe than ignorance, and there is no wealth more profiting than the intellect.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
O Hisham, everything has a sign and the sign of intellect is thinking, and the sign of thinking is silence. Everything has a mount, and the mount of intellect is humbleness, and it is enough proof of your ignorance if you commit that which you have been prohibited from.

Imam Ali (as):
It suffices for a man to be considered ignorant if he is unaware of his own faults and discredits others for the same faults he is unable to give up.
