كتاب امالی نوشته شده توسط شيخ صدوق ابن بابويه قمى است.كتاب امالى از جلسههاى متعددى كه شيخ صدوق هفتهاى دو روز در روزهاى سه شنبه و جمعه در سال 367 هجرى املاء فرموده و شاگردان ايشان نوشتهاند تشكيل شده است.فن امالى نويسىدر اواخر قرن سوم هجرى شيوهاى در ميان دانشمندان اسلامى ظهور كرد. امالى اينگونه است كه يكى از اساتيد و دانشمندان بزرگ در انجمنى، مطالبى را ايراد مىكرد و ديگران سخنان او را نوشته و جمعآورى مىكردند تا به صورت كتابى مىشد و آن را امالى مىخواندند.شيخ صدوق از هفتاد و يك استاد شيعه و سنى استفاده حديث كرده و روايات آنها را با سلسله سندها در كتاب خصال خود آورده است.موضوعات مختلفى در اين كتاب مورد بحث واقع شده كه اكثر آنها جنبه اخلاقى و تاريخى و نقل فضائل خاندان پيامبر اسلام صلى اللّه عليه و آله و سلم را دارند.اخبار اخلاقى نقل شده توسط غير شيعيان با ملاحظه متن آن، به حكم عقل سليم تأييد مىشود و اخبار فضائل خاندان پيامبر عليهم السلام از زبان مخالفان، مقرون به قرينه قطعيه است زيرا روات آنها دليلى براى جعل حديث نداشتهاند لذا شيخ در اين دو موضوع، اخبار بسيارى از راويان مخالف مذهب نقل كرده است.ثواب روزه در ماههاى ذى حجه و رجب و شعبان و رمضان و ارزش خواب و رؤياى مؤمن و مقتل امام حسين عليه السلام و مستحبات نماز و احكام و شرايع، از ديگر مباحثى است كه در اين كتاب مطرح شده است.
