Imam al-Kazim (as):
O Hisham, He who wants freedom from need without the need for riches, and comfort of the heart free from jealousy, and security in his faith should implore Allah, Mighty and Exalted, in his plea for Him to perfect his intellect. He who uses his intellect is content with that which suffices him and once he is content with what suffices him, he becomes free from need. And the one who is not content with that which suffices him [and craves for more] will never experience contentment.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Whoever accepts from Allah the little livelihood, Allah will accept from him the little in actions.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
That which is little yet sufficient is better than that which is abundant and distracting [as a result].

Imam Ali (as):
He who is content from the world with that which satisfies his needs, then [he should know that] the very least from the world is enough to satisfy his needs. But the one who is not content with that which satisfies his needs [and wants more], then nothing of what the world contains would be enough to satisfy his needs.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
He who is content with whatever sustenance Allah has provided for him is the richest of people.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
A believer should possess eight qualities: He should be composed and dignified in tribulations, patient in the face of calamities, thankful in times of comfort, and content with whatever sustenance Allah has provided for him. He does not do injustice to his enemies. He does not place his burden on his friends. His own self is exhausted because of him, whereas people are at ease when being with him. Knowledge is the friend of the believer, forbearance is his minister, intellect is the commander of his army, lenience is his brother and righteousness is his father.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Be content with what Allah has allotted for you, do not gaze upon what others have, and do not wish for what you are incapable of acquiring, for whoever is content will be sated and whoever is not content will never be sated, and strive to secure your portion of the hereafter.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
A man complained to Imam al-Sadiq (as) that he sought livelihood and earned enough but that he was not satisfied and his self [Nafs] disputed for more. Then he said, 'Teach me something I can benefit from.' The Imam replied, 'If that which satisfies your needs suffices you, then the very least from this world will be sufficient for you, but if what satisfies your needs does not suffice you [and you want more], then all that the world contains will not be sufficient for you.'

Imam Ali (as):
O son of Adam! If only you seek from the world enough to satisfy your needs, indeed the very least from it will be enough to satisfy your needs. But if instead you desire more than your needs, then truly all that it contains will not suffice you.
