الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
الْمُؤْمِنُ حَلِيمٌ لَايَجْهَلُ، وَ إِنْ جُهِلَ عَلَيْهِ يَحْلُمُ وَ لَا يَظْلِمُ، وَ إِنْ ظُلِمَ غَفَرَ؛ وَ لَا يَبْخَلُ، وَ إِنْ بُخِلَ عَلَيْهِ صَبَرَ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The believer is clement and does not act rashly [with others], and if he is ever treated rashly, he forbears. He does not wrong anyone, and if he is ever wronged, he forgives. he is never miserly, and if someone is miserly towards him, he remains patient.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):
كُنْ عَلى عُمرِكَ أشَحَّ مِنكَ عَلى دِرهَمِكَ ودينارِكَ.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Be even more niggardly with your lifetime than with your dirham and your dinar [i.e. your money].

He who is miserly with regard to his own self will be more miserly when it comes to others.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
عَجِبتُ للبخيلِ يَستعجِلُ الفَقرَ الّذي مِنه هَرَبَ، وَ يَفُوتُهُ الغِنَى الّذي إيّاهُ طَلبَ، فيعيشُ في الدُّنيا عَيْشَ الفُقراءِ، وَ يُحاسَبُ في الآخِرةِ حسابَ الأغنياءِ.
Imam Ali (as):
I wonder at the miser – he expedites the same poverty from which he escapes, and misses the same richness for which he yearns! So he leads a life of deprivation in this world like the poor, yet he will be judged with the rich in the Hereafter.
