Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Regarding the verse: “and be good to parents” Imam al-Sadiq (as) said, "Being good to parents means that you keep company with them kindly, and do not give them the trouble of asking you for what they need [do not wait until they ask you for their needs] even if they happen to be rich."

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Allah, Mighty and Exalted, said, 'My creatures are my dependents, and the most beloved ones to me are those who are the kindest to my dependents and strive the most to fulfil their needs.'

Imam Ali (as):
I wonder at a man whose brother comes to him with a need but he refrains from fulfilling it and does not deem himself worthy of doing good. Let's suppose that he does not expect any reward and fears no punishment, but does he have no interest in noble moral traits?!

Imam Ali (as):
Take a little amount that suffices you from the wealth of this world and leave the large amount from this world that would make you transgress the bounds.

Imam al-Jawad (as):
People who perform acts of courtesy towards others benefit more from them than the receptors of their kindness, for verily they have the reward for them, the [rewarding feeling of] pride for having helped someone as well as a mention. So however much good a man may do for others, it ultimately always starts by benefiting himself, and hence he never seeks thanks for the benefit incurred by himself through helping others.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Imam al-Baqir (AS) narrated that Imam Ali (AS) used to say, He who, in spite of having water and soil at his disposal, is still poor, is dissociated by Allah.
