الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
إِنَّ طَاعَةَ النَّفْسِ وَ مُتَابَعَةَ أَهْوِيَتِهَا أُسُّ كُلِّ مِحْنَةٍ وَ رَأْسُ كُلِّ غَوَايَةٍ.

Verily, obeying the soul and pursuing its desires is the root cause of every misery and the fountainhead of every error.

The author of this book is Nasih al-Din Abu l-Fath 'Abd al-Wahid b. Muhammad b. 'Abd al-Wahid Tamimi al-Amidi (d. 510/1116-7)[1]. Very little is known about his life apart from that he was a judge from Amid (now Diyarbakır, Turkey).[2] He has written another book called Jawahir al-kalam fi al-hukm wa al-ahkam min qissat sayyid al-anam.

Abul Hasan Kafi al-Din Ali bin Muhammad bin Hasan bin Laithi Wasti, preacher, poet, one of the scholars of the 6th century, author of the book Ayun al-Hakm wa al-Mawazi. Allameh Majlisi says in volume 78 of Bihar al-Anwar: Sheikh Ali bin Muhammad Laithi Wasti has given the words of Amir al-Mu'minin (a.s.) and the words of the rest of the Imams of Athar (a.s.) in the book Aiyun al-Hikam wa al-Wa'iz and Zokharah al-Mu'taaz wa al-Wa'iz.
