الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
بِالعَقلِ استُخرِجَ غَورُ الحِكمَةِ ، و بِالحِكمَةِ استُخرِجَ غَورُ العَقلِ .
Imam Ali (as):
Through intellect is the depth of wisdom explored, through wisdom is the depth of intellect explored.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
إِنَّ الْعَالِمَ إِذَا لَمْ يَعْمَلْ بِعِلْمِهِ، زَلَّتْ مَوْعِظَتُهُ عَنِ الْقُلُوبِ كَمَا يَزِلُّ الْمَطَرُ عَنِ الصَّفَا.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
When the knowledgeable man does not act upon his knowledge, his exhortation slips away from the hearts like the rain slips off a flat rock.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):
زَكَاةُ الْعِلْمِ أَنْ تُعَلِّمَهُ عِبَادَ اللَّهِ.
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
The Zakat of knowledge is to teach it to the servants of Allah.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله: إِنَّ اللَّهَ- عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- يَقُولُ: تَذَاكُرُ الْعِلْمِ‏ بَيْنَ عِبَادِي مِمَّا تَحْيَا عَلَيْهِ‏ الْقُلُوبُ الْمَيْتَةُ إِذَا هُمُ انْتَهَوْا فِيهِ إِلى‏ أَمْرِي.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Allah Almighty says, The discussion of knowledge among My servants revives the dead hearts if, by it, they seek to fulfil My command.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
وَجَدْتُ عِلْمَ النَّاسِ كُلَّهُ فِي أَرْبَعٍ: أَوَّلُهَا: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ رَبَّكَ، وَ الثَّانِي: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ مَا صَنَعَ بِكَ، وَ الثَّالِثُ: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ مَا أَرَادَ مِنْكَ‏، وَ الرَّابِعُ: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ مَا يُخْرِجُكَ مِنْ‏ دِينِكَ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
I have found all the knowledge of people in four things: (a) to know your Lord, (b) to know what He has done for you, (c) to know what He wants from you and (d) to know what removes you from your religion.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):
فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسانُ إِلى‏ طَعامِهِ‏ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَا طَعَامُهُ؟ قَالَ: عِلْمُهُ الَّذِي يَأْخُذُهُ، عَمَّنْ‏ يَأْخُذُهُ؟
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
I asked Imam al-Baqir (as), regarding the verse: "Then let man look at his food.", What is meant by 'his food'? He replied: It means the knowledge he acquires, [he should consider] from whom he acquires it.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله: نِعْمَ وَزِيرُ الْإِيمَانِ الْعِلْمُ، وَ نِعْمَ وَزِيرُ الْعِلْمِ الْحِلْمُ، وَ نِعْمَ وَزِيرُ الْحِلْمِ الرِّفْقُّ، وَ نِعْمَ وَزِيرُ الرِّفْقِ الْصبر.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The best minister for faith is knowledge, the best minister for knowledge is forbearance, the best minister for forbearance is leniency and the best minister for leniency is patience.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
رَوِّحُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ بِبَدِيعِ الْحِكْمَةِ؛ فَإِنَّهَا تَكِلُّ كَمَا تَكِلُّ الْأَبْدَانُ‏.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Bring solace to your souls with articles of wisdom, for the soul gets tired just as the body gets tired.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ:إِنَّما يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبادِهِ الْعُلَماءُ قَالَ: يَعْنِي بِالْعُلَمَاءِ مَنْ صَدَّقَ فِعْلُهُ قَوْلَهُ، وَ مَنْ لَمْ يُصَدِّقْ فِعْلُهُ قَوْلَهُ‏، فَلَيْسَ بِعَالِمٍ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Regarding the following verse: "Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge.", Imam al-Sadiq (as) said: By 'scholars', Allah means those whose deeds testify to the truthfulness of their words, and one whose deeds do not testify to the truthfulness of his words, is not a scholar.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):
مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلْمَ وَ عَمِلَ بِهِ وَ عَلَّمَ لِلَّهِ‏، دُعِيَ فِي مَلَكُوتِ السَّمَاوَاتِ عَظِيماً، فَقِيلَ: تَعَلَّمَ لِلَّهِ، وَ عَمِلَ لِلَّهِ، وَ عَلَّمَ لِلَّهِ.
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Whoever acquires knowledge and acts upon it and teaches it to others for the sake of Allah, will be called 'noble' in the realm of the heavens. It will be said: ‘He learned for the sake of Allah, acted for the sake of Allah and taught for the sake of Allah.
