Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
There are three types of dreams: glad tidings from Allah for the believer, ominous dreams from Satan, and muddled dreams.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Keep your soul away from what harms it before it departs your body, and struggle to set it free [from desire] just as you struggle to earn your livelihood, for verily your soul is hostage to your deed.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Hearts have [the capacity to] incline [to worship] and to retract, so when they incline then perform the supererogatory, and when they retract then observe the obligatory.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Take from your soul for your soul; take from it in your good health before illness [strikes you], in your strength before weakness and in your lifetime before death overtakes you.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Refresh your souls with new words of wisdom, for the soul gets exhausted just as the body gets exhausted.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Verily our followers (Shia) have four eyes: two in their head, and two in their heart. Actually, all people are such, except that Allah has opened their [the Shia’s] eyes, and blinded others’ [as a result of their rejection of His guidance].

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Allah has punishments of the hearts and of the bodies: a difficult livelihood, weakness in worship, and the harshest punishment a servant is stricken with is hardness of the heart.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
You have a heart and ears to hear, and verily if Allah wants to guide a servant, He opens the ears of his heart, and if He wills the opposite, He seals the ears of his heart so it will never again be sound. This is the purport of Allah's verse: "or are there locks on the hearts?"
