The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Work for your life [in this world] as though you will live forever, and work for the Hereafter as though you will die tomorrow.

Imam Ali (as):
There is no compensation for the Hereafter; and this life is not a worthy price for the self.

Imam Ali (as):
This life is an epoch whilst the Hereafter is eternity.

Imam Ali (as):
Every aspect of this world seems greater upon hearing than when it is seen, and every aspect of the Hereafter is greater when it will be seen than when it is heard about. So be satisfied with the hearing in lieu of the seeing and with the news [of the prophets] in lieu of seeing what is concealed. [regarding the Hereafter and the unseen you should be content with what you hear and you are informed of by the prophets].

Imam Ali (as):
This world is turning away from you and the Hereafter is close to you.
Source: Nahj al-Balāgha No32

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Sell your world for your Hereafter and you will attain both of them, but do not sell your Hereafter for your world for you will lose them both.
Source: Biḥār al-Anwār Vol13 P422

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
If this world is transient, then why be satisfied with it?
Source: Biḥār al-Anwār Vol73 P88

O World, [you can only] deceive those who are ignorant of your tricks and who are unaware of the snares of your sly deceptions (you cannot deceive me).

Imam Ali (as):
Verily your world to me is more worthless than a leaf being gnawed at in the mouth of a locust... What has Ali got to do with perishable things?!
Source: Biḥār al-Anwār Vol40 P348

Imam Ali (as):
The world has been named dunya because it is lower than every thing, and the Hereafter has been named akhira because it is the realm of punishment and reward.
