رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):
كُنْ عَلى عُمرِكَ أشَحَّ مِنكَ عَلى دِرهَمِكَ ودينارِكَ.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Be even more niggardly with your lifetime than with your dirham and your dinar [i.e. your money].

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
لَا تُدْخِلَنَّ فِي مَشُورَتِكَ بَخِيلًا فَيَعْدِلَ بِكَ عَنِ الْقَصْدِ وَ يَعِدَكَ الْفَقْرَ.
Imam Ali (as):
Do not include a miserly person in your consultation as he will divert you from moderation and threaten you with poverty.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
مَنْ بَخِلَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ كَانَ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ أَبْخَلَ.
Imam Ali (as):
He who is miserly even to himself will be more miserly to others.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
وقد عَلِمتُم أنَّهُ لا يَنبَغِي أن يكونَ الوالِي على الفُرُوجِ والدِّماءِ والمَغانِمِ والأحكامِ وإمامَةِ المسلمينَ البَخِيلُ ... ولا المُرتَشِي في الحُكمِ فَيَذهَبَ بالحُقوقِ، ويَقِفَ بِها دُونَ المَقاطِعِ.
Imam Ali (as):
You certainly know that he who is in charge of the honour, the lives, the booty, [enforcement of] the commandments and the leadership of the Muslims must not be a miser ... nor must he accept bribes in his ruling lest he forfeit people s rights and give them to those who do not deserve them.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
الجُبنُ والحِرصُ والبُخلُ غرائزُ سُوءٍ يَجمعُها سُوءُ الظَّنِّ باللّهِ سبحانَهُ.
Imam Ali (as):
Cowardice, greed, and miserliness are vile traits which result from distrust in Allah.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):
لا تُقارِنْ ولا تُواخِ أربعةً: الأحْمَقَ، والبَخيلَ، والجَبانَ، والكَذّابَ.
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Do not take for brothers nor associate with: the fool, the miserly, the coward, and the liar.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
أبخَلُ النّاسِ مَن بَخِلَ على نفسِهِ بمالِهِ وخلّفَهُ لِوُرّاثِهِ.
Imam Ali (as):
The most miserly person is he who does not spend his money on himself and stores it away for his inheritors.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
الْبَخِيلُ بَعِيدٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ بَعِيدٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ بَعِيدٌ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ قَرِيبٌ مِنَ النَّارِ.
Imam Ali (as):
The greedy is far from Allah, far from the people and close to Hellfire.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
عَجِبتُ للبخيلِ يَستعجِلُ الفَقرَ الّذي مِنه هَرَبَ، وَ يَفُوتُهُ الغِنَى الّذي إيّاهُ طَلبَ، فيعيشُ في الدُّنيا عَيْشَ الفُقراءِ، وَ يُحاسَبُ في الآخِرةِ حسابَ الأغنياءِ.
Imam Ali (as):
I wonder at the miser – he expedites the same poverty from which he escapes, and misses the same richness for which he yearns! So he leads a life of deprivation in this world like the poor, yet he will be judged with the rich in the Hereafter.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
ليسَ لِبخيلٍ حبيبٌ.
Imam Ali (as):
A miser can have no friend.
