The Prophet Muhammad (S):
People will experience such a time when their conscience will become wicked but their outward appearance will be beautiful as a result of their greed in the world. They will not seek through it what is with their Lord and their religiosity will be merely for showing off.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as) said: "Persevering with an action is harder than [performing] the action itself." Then he was asked: 'And what doe’s preserving an act mean?' The Imam (as) replied: "A man maintains relations with his kin and spends in the way of Allah, the One, Who has no partners, therefore, [the reward of] a good deed which was done in secret is recorded for him, then he mentions his good deed in the presence of others, thus the very good deed is recorded as something done in public, then he mentions it again and this time it is recorded as something done for showing off."

Imam Ali (as):
Three characteristics distinguish a show off: he is energetic and active whilst in the presence of people, but he is lazy when he is by himself, and he loves to be praised for everything does.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Every act of showing off is tantamount to polytheism. Verily whoever acts for people the reward of his act is upon people [he should not expect any reward from Allah].

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Imam al-Sadiq (AS) with regards to God's verse, "Whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and never associate anyone with the service of his Lord.", said: 'A man performs a good deed through which he does not seek to please his Lord, rather he wants to earn people's admiration, wishing that people would hear about it. Such a man has associated partners in the service of his Lord.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Allah, Mighty and Exalted, says: "I am the best of partners; whoever performs a deed for Me as well as for someone else alongside Me, I will not accept it, unless it is performed sincerely for Me alone."

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Fear Allah [and refrain from sins] so that you will never need to seek His forgiveness and act only for Allah without any intention for showing off and publicity, for whoever acts for other than Allah Allah relegates him to his act.
