Imam Ali (as):
Imam Ali (as) was asked: 'How did you come to know your Lord?' To which he replied, 'I came to know my Lord by how He made Himself known to me.' then it was said, 'And how did He make Himself known to you?' He replied, 'That no image resembles him, that He cannot be perceived by the senses, and that He is not to be compared to people.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Allah does not accept any act without inner knowledge [Ma'rifat] and inner knowledge only comes through prior action. So, whoever gains knowledge intrinsically, his knowledge will lead him to action, and whoever does not act does not have any inner knowledge.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
He who acts without any insight is as the one who travels off the path, whom walking faster only avails to take him further away from the path.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The prophet (s) said, 'He who wakes up in the morning unconcerned about the situations of fellow Muslims is not a Muslim. And one who hears a man calling, O Muslims, [help!] but does not respond to his call, is not a Muslim.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
He who abstains from [the vain pleasures of] the world God will establish wisdom in his heart, make his tongue speak it, open his eyes to the flaws of the world, its illnesses as well as its cures and will take him out safely from this world into the abode of peace.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Thinking is the life of the heart of the cognizant just as when someone walks in the darkness with a light and easily gets out of it without much waiting therein.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Verily our followers (Shia) have four eyes: two in their head, and two in their heart. Actually, all people are such, except that Allah has opened their [the Shia’s] eyes, and blinded others’ [as a result of their rejection of His guidance].
