Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Be more hopeful of that which you do not expect than that which you expect and hope for, for verily Moses (AS) went to bring his family a brand from the fire and returned to them as a prophet sent by God.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
When Imam al-Sadiq (AS) was asked about a group of people who commit sins and ,at the same time, express hopes [in God's mercy and forgiveness], and remain thus until death overtakes them, said: "These are people who swing back and forth between their desires. They are lying and are not really hopeful, for the one who hopes for something seeks it, and the one who fears something flees from it."

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
When you supplicate, turn [to Allah] with your whole heart and be optimistic that your request has been met.

Imam Ali (as):
I advise you to be wary of your duty to Allah, for it is the goal of every hopeful seeker, the assurance of the runaway refugee, so make God-wariness your inner basis.

Imam Ali (as):
Imam al-Sadiq (as) wrote to one of his companions: 'I advise You and myself to fear the One whose disobedience is not permissible, and none is hoped other than Him, and riches is not obtained except through Him.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
If any of you would like to be granted his need any time he beseeches to his Lord, then he must despair of all people, and place his hope solely in Allah. When Allah finds this in his heart, then He will grant his need whenever he beseeches to Allah.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Having a good opinion about Allah means that you place your hope in no one but Him, and that you fear nothing but your own sins.

Imam al-Reḍa (as):
Entertain the best opinion about Allah, For Allah says: I deal with my believing servant according to his opinion about Me. If he thinks good about Me, then I will be good to him, and if he thinks bad about me, I will treat him accordingly.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
No sooner does a faithful servant entertain a good opinion about Allah than Allah treats him according to his opinion, for Allah is Magnanimous and all good is in His hand, and He would be too ashamed to treat His servant contrary to his opinion and hope when he entertains a good opinion about Him, therefore, have a good opinion about Allah and be desirous towards Him.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
I said to Imam al-Sadiq (as): 'There is a group of your adherents who disobey Allah but at the same time they say that they hope [in His mercy].' The Imam Said: 'They are lying and are not our adherents. They are people who swing back and forth between their desires. One who hopes for something seeks it, and the one who fears something flees from it.'
