Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
"It has been narrated by Imam Sadiq (a.s): Jesus (PBUH) used to say: Do not speak too much about matters in which God is not remembered, for verily the hearts of those who do so become hardened while they realize it not."

Imam Ali (as):
He who knows that his speech is also a part of his action decreases his speech except in that which concerns him.

Imam Ali (as):
He who speaks too much commits more errors. He who commits more errors becomes shameless. He who is shameless, his piety decreases. He whose piety decreases, his heart dies, and whoever's heart dies will enter the Fire.

Imam Ali (as):
There is no good in keeping silent when you can offer wisdom, just as there is no good in speaking with ignorance.

Imam Ali (as):
Do not say what you do not know; rather, do not say all that you know, because Allah has laid down some obligations for all your limbs by means of which He will put forth arguments against you on the Day of Judgment.

Imam Ali (as):
Words are in your control until you let them go. Once you let them go, you are bound by their tether. Guard your tongue as you guard your gold and silver, for many a careless word snatches away a blessing and invites punishment.
