الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
كَانَ اَلْمَسِيحُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ يَقُولُ لاَ تُكْثِرُوا اَلْكَلاَمَ فِي غَيْرِ ذِكْرِ اَللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اَلَّذِينَ يُكْثِرُونَ اَلْكَلاَمَ قَاسِيَةٌ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَ لَكِنْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
"It has been narrated by Imam Sadiq (a.s): Jesus (PBUH) used to say: Do not speak too much about matters in which God is not remembered, for verily the hearts of those who do so become hardened while they realize it not."

الإمام الكاظم (عليه السَّلام):
الإمامُ الكاظمُ عليه السلام ـ لِرَجُلٍ قـالَ لَـهُ : أوصِني ـ : اِحفَظْ لِسانَكَ تَعِزَّ ، و لا تُمَكِّنِ النّاسَ مِن قِيادِكَ فتَذِلَّ رَقبَتُكَ .
Imam al-Kazim (as):
Imam al-Kazim (as) said to a man who asked him for advice: Guard your tongue and you will gain honour, and do not hand your control over to people lest you be abased.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
احْذَرُوا أَهْوَاءَكُمْ كَمَا تَحْذَرُونَ أَعْدَاءَكُمْ، فَلَيْسَ شَيْءٌ أَعْدى لِلرِّجَالِ مِنِ اتِّبَاعِ أَهْوَائِهِمْ، وَ حَصَائِدِ أَلْسِنَتِهِمْ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Be on your guard against your desires as you guard against your enemies, for there is nothing more detrimental to men than following their desires and the consequences of their tongues [i.e. speech].

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
إِنَّ مِنْ شَرِّ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ مَنْ تُكْرَهُ مُجَالَسَتُهُ لِفُحْشِهِ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Among the most evil servants of Allah are those whose company is abhorred [by people] because of their obscenity.

He who knows Allah and celebrates His greatness prevents his tongue from [excessive and idle] speaking.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
الْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ طَابَ مَكْسَبُهُ، وَ حَسُنَتْ خَلِيقَتُهُ، وَ صَحَّتْ سَرِيرَتُهُ، وَ أَنْفَقَ الْفَضْلَ مِنْ مَالِهِ، وَ أَمْسَكَ الْفَضْلَ مِنْ كَلَامِهِ، وَ كَفَى النَّاسَ شَرَّهُ، وَ أَنْصَفَ النَّاسَ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The believer is one whose earnings are pure, whose character is beautiful, whose conscience is clean, who gives away whatever is surplus from his wealth and guards whatever is surplus from his speech, who people feel safe from his evil and is fair to people in spite of himself.

الإمام السّجاد (عليه السَّلام):
طُوبى لِمَنْ طَابَ خُلُقُهُ، وَ طَهُرَتْ سَجِيَّتُهُ، وَ صَلَحَتْ سَرِيرَتُهُ، وَ حَسُنَتْ عَلَانِيَتُهُ، وَ أَنْفَقَ الْفَضْلَ مِنْ مَالِهِ، وَ أَمْسَكَ الْفَضْلَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ، وَ أَنْصَفَ النَّاسَ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ.
Imam al-Sajjad (as):
Blessed be the one whose character is good, whose disposition is pleasant, whose conscience is clean and whose outer is agreeable. He gives away whatever is surplus from his wealth, and guards whatever is surplus from his speech and is fair to people in spite of himself.

مَنْ لَمْ يَحْسُبْ كَلَامَهُ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كَثُرَتْ خَطَايَاهُ، وَ حَضَرَ عَذَابُهُ.

One who does not count his speech as part of his deeds his mistakes will increase and his punishment will draw near.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Prophet Jesus (as) used to say: "Do not speak too mush about matters other than the remembrance of God, for verily the hearts of those who speak too mush about matters other than the remembrance of God become hardened without them knowing it."
