الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

لاَ تَأْمَنَنَّ عَلَى خَيْرِ هذِهِ الاْمَّةِ عَذَابَ اللهِ، لِقَوْلِهِ تَعَالى: (فَلا يَأْمَنُ مَكْرَ اَللَّهِ إِلاَّ اَلْقَوْمُ اَلْخاسِرُونَ) وَ لاَ تَيْأَسَنَّ لِشَرِّ هَذِهِ اَلْأُمَّةِ مِنْ رَوْحِ اَللَّهِ لِقَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى (إِنَّهُ لا يَيْأَسُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اَللَّهِ إِلاَّ اَلْقَوْمُ اَلْكافِرُونَ)

Imam Ali (as):

Don’t suppose even the best of this community secure against God’s punishment, for the Almighty says, «Only losers feel secure against God’s reckoning». Don’t suppose that even the worst of this community is without hope of receiving God’s grace, for the Almighty says, «Only unbelievers despair of God’s grace.»

The age up to which Allah accepts any excuse from a human being is sixty years.

مَا أَهَمَّنِى ذَنْبٌ أُمْهِلْتُ بَعْدَهُ حَتَّى أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَ أَسْأَلَ اللَّهَ الْعَافِيَةَ

Imam Ali (as):

I am not stressed out by a sin after which I am given enough time to perform two units of prayer and ask God for safety [from Hs punishment].

Honour your children and refine their manners and your sins will be forgiven.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَبْكِيَ فَلْيَبْكِ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَلْيُشْعِرْ قَلْبَهُ الْحُزْنَ وَ لْيَتَبَاكَ إِنَّ الْقَلْبَ الْقَاسِيَ بَعِيدٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَ لكِنْ لا يَشْعُرُون‏.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

O Abazar, one who is able to weep [over his sins] must do so, and one who is unable to weep must accustom his heart to sorrow and endeavor to weep. Verily [one with] a hard heart is far from Allah but they perceive it not.

من استمع حرفا من كتاب اللَّه، من غير قراءة، كتب اللَّه له حسنة، و محا عنه سيئة، و رفع له درجة.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Whoever listens to a verse from the book of God without even reciting it himself, Allah will write for him a good deed, and efface a misdeed from him, and elevate him by one degree.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

الكافي عن الإمام الصّادق عليه السلام : إذا بَلَغتِ النَّفْس هاهُنا ـ و أشارَ بِيَدِهِ إلى حَلْقِهِ ـ لَم يَكُن للعالِمِ تَوبَةٌ ، ثُمّ قَرَأ: «إنّما التّوبةُ على اللّه للّذين يَعملونَ السُّوءَ بجهالةٍ»

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

When the soul reaches here -and he pointed to his throat- there will be no repentance for a knowledgeable man, then he recited the verse: “[Acceptance of] repentance by Allah is only for those who commit evil out of ignorance..."

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):

إنَّ اللّهَ تعالى أشَدُّ فَرَحا بتوبةِ عبدِهِ مِن رجُلٍ أضَلَّ راحِلَتَهُ و زادَهُ في ليلةٍ ظَلْماءَ فوجَدَها ، فاللّهُ أشَدُّ فَرَحا بتَوبَةِ عبدِهِ مِن ذلكَ الرّجُلِ براحِلَتِهِ حِينَ وجَدَها .

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

Allah’s happiness upon the repentance of His servant is greater than the happiness of a man who finds his provision and his mount after losing them in the middle of a dark night.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام ـ لَمّا سُئلَ عن قَومٍ يَعمَلُونَ بالمَعاصِي و يَقولونَ : نَرجُو ، فلا يَزالُونَ كذلكَ حتّى يَأتِيَهُمُ الموتُ ؟ ـ : هؤلاءِ قَومٌ يَتَرَجَّحُونَ في الأمانِيِّ كَذَبوا لَيسُوا بِراجِينَ ، إنّ مَن رَجا شَيئا طَلَبَهُ و مَن خافَ مِن شيءٍ هَربَ مِنهُ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

When Imam al-Sadiq (AS) was asked about a group of people who commit sins and ,at the same time, express hopes [in God's mercy and forgiveness], and remain thus until death overtakes them, said: "These are people who swing back and forth between their desires. They are lying and are not really hopeful, for the one who hopes for something seeks it, and the one who fears something flees from it."

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

أربَعٌ مَن كُنَّ فيهِ و كانَ مِن قَرنِهِ إلى قَدَمِهِ ذُنوباً بَدَّلَها اللّهُ حَسَناتٍ : الصِّدقُ ، و الحَياءُ ، و حُسنُ الخُلُقِ ، و الشُّكرُ .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

Four qualities, when possessed by a person, cause Allah to transform his evil deeds into good deeds, even if he is sinful from head to toe. They are: honesty, modesty, good character and thankfulness.
