Imam Ali (as):
When Imam Ali, peace be upon him, put Ziyad ibn Abih in place of Abdullah ibn Abbas over Fars (in Persia) and its revenues, he had a long conversation with him in which he prohibited him from collecting the land tax before it came due. Therein, he said: Act on justice and keep aloof from violence and injustice because violence will lead them to forsake their abodes while injustice will prompt them to take up arms.

Imam Ali (as):
One of ʿAlī governors built a grand mansion, and ʿAlī said to him in rebuke: Here are silver dirhams displaying their faces! The mansion speaks loudly of your wealth.

Imam Ali (as):
The one who associates with the ruler is like one who rides a lion - he is envied for his [high] position, and yet only he best knows his [unstable] situation.

Imam al-Hussain (as):
The disposal of affairs and implementation of rules are in the hands of theist scholars; [who are] the trustees of what has been made lawful and unlawful by Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
None is worthy of leadership except for a man who has three characteristics: piety that prevents him from disobeying Allah, clemency with which he controls his anger, and maintaining excellent guardianship towards his people, such that he treats them like a compassionate father.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
In an intimate conversation that Allah had with Prophet Moses (AS), He said: "Do not envy anyone merely because people are pleased with him until you know that Allah is also pleased with him, and do not envy anyone for being obeyed by people, because people’s obedience to him and their adherence to him in falsehood is a source of destruction for him and for those adhering to him.

Imam Ali (as):
Allah, most High, has made it obligatory upon the leaders of justice to equate themselves with the weak ones from among people, so that the poor are not intimidated as a result of their poverty.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Imam al-Sadiq (as), with regard to two of his companions who went to be judged before a tyrant in a dispute they had about a loan or inheritance, said, 'Whoever goes to be judged before a tyrant and he judges in favour of one of them, whatever he is compensated is unlawful, even if it was rightfully his, because he took it by judgment of a tyrant when Allah has ordered him to reject the tyrant.'
