Imam Ali (as):
Imam Al (AS) said in his sermon: "I seek refuge in Allah from the sins which hasten one’s death. Then Abdullah ibn al-Kawa’ stood up and asked: 'O Commander of the faithful, are there such sins which hasten one’s death? To which the Imam (as) replied: "Yes indeed, [it is] cutting off ties with one’s kin."

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
I advise both the present and the absent ones from my community and those in the loins of men and the wombs of women till the Day of Resurrection to maintain relations with their kin even if it takes them one year to travel the distance, for this is indeed a part of religion.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
I asked Imam al-Sadiq (as) about a man who has cut off relations with a relative of his because he is not acquainted with the right religion [is not a Shia], to which the Imam replied: "He should not cut off relations with him."

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Imam al-Sadiq (AS), with regards to God's verse: “Be wary of Allah, in whose Name you adjure one another and [of severing ties with] blood relations.”, said: 'It refers to people's blood relations, with whom Allah has ordered the ties to be maintained and has venerated them. Do you not see that He has mentioned them alongside His own name?'

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Shall I inform you of the best virtues in the world and the hereafter? [They are] pardoning someone who has wronged you, reconciliation with the one who has cut you off, doing good to the one who has done bad to you, and giving to the one who has deprived you.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Maintain relations with your kin even if it be by offering them a drink of water. The best way to maintain relations with your kin is to refrain from hurting them in any way.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Maintaining relations with one's kin improves one's character, causes one to become generous, purifies the soul, increases one's sustenance, and delays one's appointed time of death.
