أتقَى النّاسِ مَن قالَ الحَقَّ فيما لَهُ وعلَيهِ.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

The most Godwary of people is he who speaks the truth, be it for or against himself.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام لَمّا سُئلَ عَن تَفسيرِ التَّقوى: أن لا يَفقِدَكَ اللّهُ حَيثُ أمَرَكَ، ولا يَراكَ حَيثُ نَهاكَ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Imam al-Sadiq (AS), when asked about the interpretation of Godwariness, said, That Allah does not miss you where He has commanded you and does not see you where He has prohibited you.

He who controls his lust is God-wary.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):

إنّ أهلَ التَّقوى أيسَرُ أهلِ الدُّنيامَؤونَةً، وأكثَرُهُم لكَ مَعونَةً، تَذكُرُ فيُعِينونَكَ، وإن نَسِيتَ ذَكَّروكَ، قَوّالُونَ بأمرِ اللّهِ، قَوّامُونَ على أمرِ اللّهِ، قَطَعوا مَحَبَّتَهُم بمَحَبَّةِ رَبِّهِم، ووَحَّشوا الدُّنيا لِطاعَةِ مَليكِهِم، ونَظَروا إلَى اللّهِ عَزَّوجلَّ وإلى مَحَبَّتِهِ بِقُلوبِهِم، وعَلِموا أنّ ذلكَ هُو المَنظورُ إلَيهِ، لِعَظيمِ شَأنِهِ.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

The Godwary people have the simplest of expenditures in this world, but are the most helpful to you with their provisions, you only have to mention and they help you, and if you forget [your needs] they remind you. They inform of Allah s commands, guardians over Allah s commands, they have confined their love to loving their Lord. They feel estranged in the world in obedience to their Ruler; they look at Allah and His love with their hearts, and they know that He is the ultimate goal because of the magnitude of His Rank.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):

إنّ لِأهلِ التَّقوى عَلاماتٍ يُعرَفونَ بِها: صِدقُ الحَديثِ، و أداءُ الأمانَةِ، و الوَف بِالعَهدِ ... و قِلَّةُ المُؤاتاةِ لِلنِّساءِ، و بَذلُ المَعروفِ، و حُسنُ الخُلقِ، و سَعَةُ الحِلمِ، و اتِّباعُ العِلمِ فيما يُقَرِّبُ إلَى اللّهِ عَزَّ و جلَّ.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

The Commander of the Faithful (as) would say, There are signs through which the God-wary can be recognized: speaking truthfully, returning trusts, fulfilling promises... spending for good causes, good-naturedness, ample clemency, and the pursuit of knowledge of whatever brings them closer to Allah Almighty.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

يا أبا ذرٍّ، لا يكونُ الرّجُلُ مِن المُتَّقينَ حتّى يُحاسِبَ نَفسَهُ أشَدَّ مِن مُحاسَبَةِ الشَّريكِ لِشَريكِهِ، فيَعلَمَ مِن أينَ مَطعَمُهُ، ومِن أينَ مَشرَبُهُ، ومِن أينَ مَلبَسُهُ؟ أمِن حِلٍّ ذلكَ، أم مِن حَرامٍ؟

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

The Prophet (SAWA), in his will to Abu Dharr said, O Abu Dharr, a man will not be among the Godwary until he takes account of himself more than a partner would take account of his [business] partner, such that he knows where his food comes from, where his drink comes from, and where his clothes come from - do they come from the lawful or the prohibited?

إنَّ المُتَّقينَ الّذينَ يَتَّقونَ اللّهَ مِن الشّي ءِ الّذي لا يُتَّقى مِنهُ خَوفا مِن الدُّخولِ في الشُّبهَةِ.إنَّ المُتَّقينَ الّذينَ يَتَّقونَ اللّهَ مِن الشّي ءِ الّذي لا يُتَّقى مِنهُ خَوفا مِن الدُّخولِ في الشُّبهَةِ.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

The Godwary are those who are wary of Allah for something that does not [necessarily] require wariness, for fear of entering into obscurity.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):

إنّ اللّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ يَقِي بِالتَّقوى عَنِ العَبدِ ما عَزُبَ عَنهُ عَقلُهُ، ويُجَلِّي بِالتَّقوى عَنهُ عَماهُ وجَهلَهُ، وبِالتَّقوى نَجا نُوحٌ ومَن مَعهُ في السَّفينَةِ وصالِحٌ ومَن مَعهُ مِن الصّاعِقَةِ، وبِالتَّقوى فازَ الصّابِرونَ، ونَجَتْ تِلكَ العُصَبُ مِن المَهالِكِ.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

Imam al-Baqir (AS), in a letter that he wrote to Sad al-Khayr, said, Allah guards a servant as a result of his Godwariness when his intellect is distant from him [cannot grasp it], and He illuminates him from blindness and ignorance as a result of his Godwariness. Noah and those with him were saved in the ark and Salih and those with him were saved from the thunderbolt, because of Godwariness. The patient ones are victorious and those groups are saved from destruction through Godwariness.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

إنَّ تَقوَى اللّهِ دَواءُ دَاءِ قُلوبِكُم، وبَصَرُعَمى أفئدتِكُم، وشِفاءُ مَرَضِ أجسادِكُم، وصَلاحُ فَسادِ صُدورِكُم، وطَهورُ دَنَسِ أنفُسِكُم، وجَلاءُ عَشا أبصارِكُم، وأمنُ فَزَعِ جَأشِكُم، وضِياءُ سَوادِ ظُلمَتِكُم.

Imam Ali (as):

God-wariness is the remedy for the sickness of your hearts, the sight for the blindness of your hearts, the cure for the sickness of your bodies, the reformation of the corruption of your chests [souls], the purification of the filth of your souls, the enlightenment of the blindness of your eyes, the safety for the fear of your anxiety, and the light to the blackness of your darkness.
