ماجَفَّتِ الدُّموعُ إلّا لِقَسوةِالقُلوبِ، وما قَسَتِ القُلوبُ إلّا لكَثرَةِ الذُّنوبِ.
Imam Ali (as):
Tears only dry up [i.e. fail to flow] as a result of hardness of the heart, and the hearts only harden as a result of frequent sinning.

لا تُكثِرُوا الكلامَ بغَيرِ ذِكرِ اللّهِ؛ فإنَّ كَثرَةَ الكلامِ بغَيرِ ذِكرِ اللّهِ قَسوَةُ القَلبِ، إنّ أبعَدَ الناسِ مِن اللّهِ القَلبُ القاسي.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Do not speak excessively without the remembrance of Allah, for excessive speech devoid of the remembrance of Allah hardens the heart. The farthest of people from Allah are the hard-hearted.
