ما تَرَكَ الحَقَّ عَزيزٌ إلّا ذَلَّ، ولا أخَذَ بِهِ ذَليلٌ إلّا عَزَّ.

No sooner does an honourable man abandon the truth than he is abased, and no sooner does a disgraced man adopt it than he is honoured.

ما مِن عَبدٍ كَظَمَ غَيظا إلّا زادَهُ اللّهُ عَزَّوجلَّ عِزّا في الدّنيا والآخِرَةِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Every single servant who swallows his anger is increased in honour by Allah, Mighty and Exalted, in this world and in the Hereafter.

مَن أرادَ عِزّا بِلا عَشيرَةٍ، وغِنىً بِلا مالٍ، وهَيبَةً بِلا سُلطانٍ، فَلْيَنقُلْ مِن ذُلِّ مَعصِيَةِ اللّهِ إلى عِزِّ طاعَتِهِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

He who wishes for honour without noble lineage, wealth without riches and dignity without rulership should remove himself from the disgrace of Allahs disobedience to the honour of His obedience.

ثَلاثٌ لا يَزيدُ اللّهُ بِهِنَّ المَرءَ المُسلِمَ إلّا عِزّا: الصَّفحُ عَمَّن ظَلَمَهُ، وإعطاءُ مَن حَرَمَهُ، والصِّلَةُ لِمَن قَطَعَهُ.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

There are three things through which Allah only increases the Muslim in honour: his pardon of one who has wronged him, his giving one who has deprived him, and his reconciliation with one who has cut him off.

:

Allah, most High, revealed to Prophet David (as) [saying], O David, verily … I have placed honour in My obedience whilst they seek it in servitude to the rulers and do not find it therefore.
