Hadiths Of The Right of the Parent upon the Child

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):

رسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله لَمّا سُئلَ عَن حَقِّ الوالِدِ على وَلدِهِ: لا يُسَمِّيهِ باسمِهِ، ولا يَمشي بَينَ يَدَيهِ، ولا يَجلِسُ قَبلَهُ، ولا يَستَسِبُّ لَهُ.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

The Prophet (SAWA), when asked about the right of the parent upon the child, said, He should not call them by their name, nor walk in front of them, nor sit before they do, nor make himself deserving of abuse from them.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

مَن نَظَرَ إلى أبَويهِ نَظَرَ ماقِتٍ وهُماظالِمانِ لَهُ، لَم يَقبَلِ اللّهُ لَهُ صَلاةً.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Whoever looks at his parents with hatred, even if they oppress him, Allah will not accept a single prayer from him.

عُقوقُ الوالِدَينِ مِن الكَبائرِ؛ لأنَّ اللّهَ تعالى جَعَلَ العاقَّ عَصِيّا شَقِيّا

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Insolence to one s parents is a grave sin, because Allah Almighty regards the insolent one as a sinner and a wretched person.

Imam al-Sadiq (AS), with regard to Allah s verse in the Qur an: "but speak to them noble words" said, If they hit you, then say to them, May Allah forgive you.

عنه عليه السلام في قولِهِ تعالى: «واخْفِضْ لَهُما جَناحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ»: لا تَملَأْ عَينَيكَ من النَّظَرِ إلَيهِما إلّا بِرَحمَةٍ ورِقَّةٍ، ولا تَرفَعْ صَوتَكَ فَوقَ أصواتِهِما، ولا يَدَكَ فَوقَ أيديهِما، ولا تَقَدَّمْ قُدّامَهُما.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Imam al-Sadiq (AS), with regards to Allah s verse in the Qur an: "Lower the wing of humility to them, out of mercy " said, Do not fill your eyes by looking at them other than with compassion and affection, and do not raise your voice over their voices, nor your hand over their hand, and do not walk in front of them.

أدنَى العُقوقِ: «افٍّ»، ولَوعَلِمَ اللّهُ عَزَّوجلَّ شَيئا أهوَنَ مِنهُ لَنَهى عَنهُ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

The lowest level of insolence [to one s parents] is saying: Fie , and if Allah knew of something more insignificant than that He would have prohibited it.

إنّ اللّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ ... أمَرَ بِالشُّكرِلَهُ ولِلوالِدَين، فمَن لَم يَشكُرْ والِدَيهِ لَم يَشكُرِ اللّهَ.

Imam al-Reḍa (as):

Allah Almighty... ordered thankfulness to Him and to one s parents, so whoever does not thank their parents does not thank Allah.

بِرُّ الوالِدَينِ واجِبٌ، فإن كانا مُشرِكَينِ فلا تُطِعْهُما ولا غَيرَهُما في المَعصيَةِ؛ فإنّهُ لاطاعَةَ لِمَخلوقٍ في مَعصِيَةِ الخالِقِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Being good to one s parents is obligatory, even if they are polytheists, but there is no obedience due to them if it entails disobedience to the Creator.

Allah s satisfaction lies in the satisfaction of one s parent, and Allah s discontentment lies in the discontentment of one s parent.
