Imam al-Kazim (as): Self-admiration [‘Ujb] has stages, some of which are: when a person’s evil deed is made to seem fair to him so he views it as good and is impressed by it and thinks that he is doing well. [Another stage is] when a person comes to believe in his Lord and considers it a favour to Allah, Mighty and Exalted, while it is Allah who has done him a favour [by guiding him to faith]. al-Kāfī
