Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as): One who precedes in supplication [prays frequently and not just when in trouble] his supplication is answered when a calamity befalls him, and the angels say: "This voice is familiar to us and is not veiled from reaching the heaven." In contrast, one who does not precede in supplication [and only remembers Allah in times of hardship], his supplication is not answered when a disaster strikes him and the angels say: "We do not recognize this voice." al-Kāfī
