Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as): Imam al-Sadiq (AS) with regards to God's verse, "Whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and never associate anyone with the service of his Lord.", said: 'A man performs a good deed through which he does not seek to please his Lord, rather he wants to earn people's admiration, wishing that people would hear about it. Such a man has associated partners in the service of his Lord.' al-Kāfī
