Imam al-Jawad (as): As for the past nations, when any of them disregarded their scripture, God took away from them the knowledge of their scripture, and when they took their enemies as allies, God gave mastery to their enemies over them. And their disregarding of the scripture was such that they protected its wordings but distorted its limits; they recited and narrated it without observing its limits; the ignorant were impressed by how attentive they were in narrating it but the scholars grieved over their lack of compliance with its limits. al-Kāfī
