Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as): The believers are of two types: a believer who is true to God's covenant and fulfils the conditions set by Him, and to this refers God's verse: 'Of the believers are men who are true to what they pledged to God.' This is the believer who will not be afflicted with the terrors of this world or the Hereafter, and will have the right to intercede [on the Day of Resurrection] but will not need to be interceded. And a believer who is like the peduncle of a plant which at times is erect and sometimes bends; such a believer will be subject to the terrors of this world and the Hereafter, will need to be interceded [on the Day of Resurrection] and will not have the right to intercede. al-Kāfī
