The best form of truthfulness is fulfillment of promises.

Verily promises are chains on people’s necks until the Day of Resurrection. So whoever fulfils them is delivered by Allah, and whoever breaks them is forsaken by Allah, and whoever takes them lightly will have to contend with the One Who has placed special emphasis on them and Who has enjoined upon His creation to fulfil them.

The Commander of the Faithful (as) would say, There are signs through which the God-wary can be recognized: speaking truthfully, returning trusts, fulfilling promises... spending for good causes, good-naturedness, ample clemency, and the pursuit of knowledge of whatever brings them closer to Allah Almighty.


A believer is the brother of another believer, his eye and his guide; he does not betray him, nor wrong him, nor deceive him, and nor does he break a promise he has made to him.


There are three things regarding which Allah, the Exalted, did not allow any flexibility: returning a trust to its owner, be he good or wicked; keeping one's pact with both the good and the wicked; and kindness to one's parents whether they be good or wicked.

There are three things wherein Allah, Mighty and Exalted, has not granted anyone a concession … the fulfillment of one’s promise, be it to the good person or the bad.

Give to people what you have at hand and keep your promises and fulfill your covenants.

Do not make a promise if you are not confident of its fulfillment.
