Your brother [whose brotherhood is] for the sake of Allah is the one who guides you to the right course and dissuades you from corruption and assists you in improving/ building your place of return (the Hereafter).

When matters become obscure for you like the darkness of the night, then turn to the Quran, for it is an intercessor whose intercession is accepted and a complainant whose complaint is acknowledged. Whoever puts it in front of them, it will lead them to Heaven, and whoever puts it behind them, it will drag them to Hell .

Refrain from [treading] a path when there is a fear of straying in it.

Stopping when faced with the confusion of falling astray is better than riding dangerous paths.

Allah, Mighty and Exalted, created all people according to the divine nature upon which He originated them, while they knew neither belief in religion nor disbelief and denial of faith, until Allah sent messengers calling people to belief in Him, then Allah guided some among them and left some others misguided.

God-wariness is the remedy for the sickness of your hearts, the sight for the blindness of your hearts, the cure for the sickness of your bodies, the reformation of the corruption of your chests [souls], the purification of the filth of your souls, the enlightenment of the blindness of your eyes, the safety for the fear of your anxiety, and the light to the blackness of your darkness.

Verily the most evil of people in the sight of Allah is the tyrannical leader who himself has gone astray and through whom others go astray. He abolishes established practices and revives abandoned innovations.


Verily in this Qur'an there is the guidepost of guidance and the lanterns for darkness.

Verily this Qur'an is the adviser that never deceives, the guide that never leads astray and the narrator that never lies.

Indeed the example of my household among you is like that of Noah's Ark; whosoever embarked it was saved and whosoever chose to remain behind it was drowned.

Verily there is no obligation on the Imam except that which has been devolved on him by Allah, namely to convey exhortations, to strive to give good counsel, to keep the prophetic practice alive, to enforce penalties on those liable to them and to issue shares [of taxes and charity] to those who deserve them.

Verily I leave behind among you two weighty things, which as long as you adhere to them, you will never go astray after me, and one of which is greater than the other. Be on your guard against the obscure matter, for verily it has been set down in order to test people [ or lead people astray].

Seek its assistance [i.e. the Qur’an’s] in your distress, for verily it contains the cure for the deadliest diseases, namely disbelief and hypocrisy, revolt and misguidance.


Imama is the [structural] system of the [Muslim] community.

Seeking to consult someone [in ones affairs] is guidance in itself, and the one who suffices himself with his own opinion endangers himself.
