Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Seek knowledge and along with it, adorn yourself with clemency and solemnity, be humble towards the one whom you teach as well as the one from whom you seek knowledge and do not be among tyrant scholars lest your evil deeds nullify your good deeds.

Imam Ali (as):
O seeker of knowledge! Verily the scholar has three signs: Knowledge, clemency, and silence. And an ignorant man who feigns knowledge has three signs: he quarrels with his superior by disobeying him, wrongs his subordinates by trying to dominate them and supports the oppressors.

Imam Ali (as):
The curse of God be upon the fools for committing sins, and on the clement ones who gave up prohibiting them from sins.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
None is worthy of leadership except for a man who has three characteristics: piety that prevents him from disobeying Allah, clemency with which he controls his anger, and maintaining excellent guardianship towards his people, such that he treats them like a compassionate father.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The believer is clement and does not act rashly [with others], and if he is ever treated rashly, he forbears. He does not wrong anyone, and if he is ever wronged, he forgives. he is never miserly, and if someone is miserly towards him, he remains patient.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
There are three things that if not present in someone, none of his actions will be complete: piety that prevents him from disobeying Allah, a character through which he is amicable towards people, and clemency with which he can deal with the rashness of the ignorant.

Imam al-Reḍa (as):
Among the signs of a jurist are clemency, knowledge, and silence. Verily silence is one of the doors to wisdom; verily silence secures love; verily it leads one to all good.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The best minister for faith is knowledge, the best minister for knowledge is clemency, the best minister for clemency is leniency and the best minister for leniency is patience.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
O Ali, do not get angry, and if you do get angry, then sit down and reflect upon the power of your Lord over His creation and His clemency towards them. And whenever anyone tells you [condescendingly] to fear Allah, suppress your anger and remind yourself of your clemency.
