How, O son of Adam, are you entitled to conceit? You began as a drop of semen and will end as a rotting corpse. You cannot sustain your life, nor can you fight off your death.

لَمَّا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ الْعَقْلَ، قَالَ لَهُ: أَقْبِلْ، فَأَقْبَلَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ: أَدْبِرْ، فَأَدْبَرَ، فَقَالَ: وَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي‏ مَا خَلَقْتُ خَلْقاً أَحْسَنَ مِنْكَ‏، إِيَّاكَ آمُرُ، وَ إِيَّاكَ أَنْهى‏، وَ إِيَّاكَ أُثِيبُ، وَ إِيَّاكَ أُعَاقِبُ.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

When Allah created the intellect, He said to it, ‘Come forward’ so it came forward, then Allah commanded it, ‘Go back’ and it went back. Then He said to it, ‘By my Honour and Exaltedness, I have not created anything better than you. It is you that I command, and you that I prohibit, and you that I punish and you that I reward.

People are like trees, although their drink is the same, they yield different types of fruits.

عَجِبْتُ لِمَنْ يَنْشُدُ ضَالَّتَهُ وَ قَدْ أَضَلَّ نَفْسَهُ فَلَا يَطْلُبُهَا

I wonder at the one who looks after his lost object, however, even though he has lost his self, he does not search for it.

You should be amazed with [the creation of] man, who sees with a piece of fat, talks with a piece of flesh, hears with a bone and breathes through a hole.

O people, fear Allah, for man has not been created in vain that he may amuse himself, nor has he been left neglected that he may commit nonsensical acts.
