لِبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ لَا تَجْعَلَنَّ أَكْثَرَ شُغُلِكَ بِأَهْلِكَ وَ وَلَدِكَ فَإِنْ يَكُنْ أَهْلُكَ وَ وَلَدُكَ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ وَ إِنْ يَكُونُوا أَعْدَاءَ اللَّهِ فَمَا هَمُّكَ وَ شُغُلُكَ بِأَعْدَاءِ اللَّهِ

Imam Ali (as):

Imam Ali (AS) said to one of his associates: Don’t devote the major part of your life to your wife and children. If they are God’s devotees, God will take care of them. And if they are God’s enemies, well then, why should you occupy yourself with caring for God’s enemies?

وَ قَدْ عَزَّى الْأَشْعَثَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ عَنِ ابْنٍ لَهُ يَا أَشْعَثُ إِنْ تَحْزَنْ عَلَى ابْنِكَ فَقَدِ اسْتَحَقَّتْ مِنْكَ ذَلِكَ الرَّحِمُ وَ إِنْ تَصْبِرْ فَفِى اللَّهِ مِنْ كُلِّ مُصِيبَةٍ خَلَفٌ

Imam Ali (as):

Giving condolences to Ash'ath ibn Qays on the death of his son, Imam Ali (AS) said, 'O Ash'ath! If you grieve over your son's death, you are not to blame for he was of your blood relations, but if you endure, then Allah provides recompense for every affliction.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

By Allah, he who loves this world and befriends other than us [i.e. Ahl al-Bayt] does not love Allah.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

مَن سَرَّهُ أن يَعلمَ أنَّ اللّهَ يُحِبُّهُ فلْيَعْمَلْ بطاعةِ اللّهِ و لْيَتَّبِعْنا ، أ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ قَولَ اللّهِ عزّ و جلّ لنَبيّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله : «قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَ يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَ اللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ » ؟!

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Whoever would like to know that Allah loves him must work in the obedience of Allah and follow us. Has he not heard the speech of Allah, Mighty and Exalted, to His Prophet (s): "Say, ‘If you love Allah, then follow me; and Allah will love you and forgive you your sins, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful."?

Imam al-Sajjad (as):

Indeed Allah loves every sorrowful heart and loves every grateful servant.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

إذا تَخَلّى المؤمنُ مِن الدُّنيا سَما و وَجَدَ حَلاوَةَ حُبِّ اللّهِ ، و كانَ عندَ أهلِ الدُّنيا كأنَّهُ قد خُولِطَ ، و إنَّما خالَطَ القَومَ حَلاوَةُ حُبِّ اللّهِ فلَم يَشْتَغلوا بغَيرِهِ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

When the believer renounces this world, he is elevated and finds the sweet taste of Allah's love; he appears to the people of this world as if he is confounded in his mind, [and the truth is that] they have confounded the sweetness of Allah's love such that they do not occupy themselves with other than Him.

قالَ اللّهُ تباركَ و تعالى : ما تَحبَّبَ إليَّ عبدي بأحَبَّ مِمّا افْتَرَضتُ علَيهِ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Allah, Mighty and Exalted, says, 'My servant endears himself to Me by no better means than [performing] what I have made obligatory upon him.'
