Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
People were enjoined to have two qualities but they neglected them and as a result lost everything: [They are] patience and concealment [of secrets].

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
By Allah, the most beloved of my followers to me are those who are the most pious, the most proficient in the knowledge of religion and the most diligent of them in concealing our hadith [from the outsiders].

Back in the time of the Imams, the Shi'a lived under immense pressure from the ruling caliphs and from their opponents. Some people were not yet ready to be acquainted with certain teachings of Ahl al-Bayt and would, thus, treat the Shia harshly or even hurt them upon finding out about those teachings. And that is the reason why the Imams would ask their followers to be secretive about some particular hadiths they had received from them.;

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Observe trustworthiness in assemblies, and exposing your brother s secret is betrayal, therefore avoid it.
