Imam Ali (as):
You are not to blame if you sit in the company of a man of intellect even if you do not approve of his dignity. However, you should benefit from his intellect and make sure to be on your guard against his ill characteristics.

Imam Ali (as):
Nothing is better conducive to Allah’s worship than the intellect, and a man’s intellect is not complete until he has some qualities: disbelief and evil from him are not to be feared, while progress and good are expected from him, and the excess from his wealth is given away [in Allah’s way].

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Muadh b. Kathir asked Imam al-Sadiq (as): 'Now that I have become rich, do I give up trading?' To which the Imam replied: 'If you do that, your intellect will diminish.'

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
[Consider] your sojourn in this world just as a house that you stayed in and [soon] departed from, or a property that you found in a dream then you awoke and not a thing from it remained with you. I have given you this parable because this world, according to the people of intellect and knowledge of Allah, is just as the shadow in the shade.

Imam Ali (as):
What prevents you from associating with a man of intellect, even if you do not find him to be of noble character, but benefit from his intellect and keep away from his bad morals. And do not give up associating with a man of noble character even if you do not benefit from his intellect, but benefit from his nobility through your intellect. And run away, as hard as you can, from a vile and foolish person.

:
Imam al-Sadiq (AS) was asked what the intellect was, to which he replied, ‘It is that with which The Beneficent God is worshipped and with which Paradise is attained.’ So the man asked, ‘So what about that which Muawiya possessed?’ He replied, ‘That is a vicious thing, that is devilry, and resembles intellect, though it is not intellect.’
