Imam al-Sajjad (as):
O Allah, Adorn me, like You have adorned the righteous, with being foremost in practicing virtues and doing good.

اقْصُرْ نَفْسَكَ عَمَّا يَضُرُّهَا مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تُفَارِقَكَ، وَ اسْعَ فِي فَكَاكِهَا كَمَا تَسْعى‏ فِي طَلَبِ مَعِيشَتِكَ؛ فَإِنَّ نَفْسَكَ رَهِينَةٌ بِعَمَلِك‏ .
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Keep your soul away from anything that could be harmful to it before it departs your body, and strive hard to set it free just as you strive to earn your livelihood, for verily your soul is hostage to your deeds.

خَيْرُ إِخْوَانِكَ مَنْ دَعَاكَ إِلَى صِدْقِ الْمَقَالِ بِصِدْقِ مَقَالِهِ وَ نَدَبَكَ إِلَى أَفْضَلِ الْأَعْمَالِ بِحُسْنِ أَعْمَالِهِ .
Imam Ali (as):
The best of your fellow brothers is the one who draws you to truthful speech through his own truthfulness and encourages you to perform good deeds through his own doing of good.

خيرُ إخْوانِكَ مَن سارَعَ إلى الخيرِ و جَذَبَكَ إلَيهِ ، و أمَرَكَ بالبِرِّ و أعانَكَ علَيهِ ، خَيْرُ إِخْوَانِكَ مَنْ دَعَاكَ إِلَى صِدْقِ الْمَقَالِ بِصِدْقِ مَقَالِه‏ .
Imam Ali (as):
The best of your brothers is the one who rushes towards good and draws you towards it, enjoins you to do good and helps you with it and invites you to the truthfulness of speech by being truthful in his own speech.

مَا مِنْ شَيْ‏ءٍ عُبِدَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الْعَقْلِ وَ مَا تَمَّ عَقْلُ امْرِئٍ حَتَّى يَكُونَ فِيهِ خِصَالٌ شَتَّى الْكُفْرُ وَ الشَّرُّ مِنْهُ مَأْمُونَانِ وَ الرُّشْدُ وَ الْخَيْرُ مِنْهُ مَأْمُولَانِ وَ فَضْلُ مَالِهِ مَبْذُول .‏
Imam Ali (as):
Nothing is better conducive to Allah’s worship than the intellect, and a man’s intellect is not complete until he has some qualities: disbelief and evil from him are not to be feared, while progress and good are expected from him, and the excess from his wealth is given away [in Allah’s way].

A good favor should be like the heavy rain that pours down upon both the righteous and the corrupt.

أَوْضَعُ الْعِلْمِ مَا وُقِفَ عَلَى اللِّسَانِ وَ أَرْفَعُهُ مَا ظَهَرَ فِي الْجَوَارِحِ وَ الْأَرْكَان‏.
Imam Ali (as):
The lowest form of knowledge is that which remains on the tongue [and is not put into practice] and the most superior form is that which is manifested through [the action of] the limbs and the organs of the body.

أَمَّا عَلَامَةُ الْخَاشِعِ فَأَرْبَعَةٌ مُرَاقَبَةُ اللَّهِ فِي السِّرِّ وَ الْعَلَانِيَةِ وَ رُكُوبُ الْجَمِيلِ وَ التَّفَكُّرُ لِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ الْمُنَاجَاةُ لِلَّه‏.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
There are four distinguishing marks of the humble ones: they are constantly mindful of God in private as well as in public, they carry out good works, they reflect on the Day of Resurrection, and engage in intimate supplication with Allah.

وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ شَهَادَةً مُمْتَحَناً إِخْلَاصُهَا مُعْتَقَداً مُصَاصُهَا نَتَمَسَّكُ بِهَا أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَانَا وَ نَدَّخِرُهَا لِأَهَاوِيلِ مَا يَلْقَانَا فَإِنَّهَا عَزِيمَةُ الْإِيمَانِ وَ فَاتِحَةُ الْإِحْسَانِ وَ مَرْضَاةُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَ مَدْحَرَةُ الشَّيْطَان‏.
Imam Ali (as):
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the One, who has no partner; a testimony whose sincerity has been tested, in whose essence we believe. we shall cling to it as long as we live, and preserve it for the hardships that we are to face; for it is the source of strength in our faith, the first step towards good deeds and Allah’s pleasure, and the means for driving Satan away.
