The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Do not speak too much about things other than the remembrance of Allah, for verily too much speech devoid of Allah’s remembrance hardens the heart.

Imam Ali (as):
[Balanced] Speech is between two attributes of badness, which are: excessive and too little [speech]; too much is prattle and too little is stammering and hesitation.

Imam al-Jawad (as):
Whoever gives a speaker his full attention has indeed expressed a form of worship or adulation to him. If the speaker leads one to Allah through his words, then it is as if one worships Allah [by giving him attention], but if he leads one to Satan through his words, it is as if one worships Satan.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Be on your guard against your desires as you guard against your enemies, for there is nothing more detrimental to men than following their desires and the consequences of their tongues [i.e. speech].
