Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
A person commits a sin after which a feeling of remorse overtakes him; thereafter, he performs a good deed, which makes him happy and thus, the feeling of remorse departs him. Had he stayed in the state of remorse, it would have been better for him than the state of happiness he is experiencing.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
No sooner an assembly consisting of righteous as well as wicked people attend a gathering and conclude it without remembering Allah therein than it will be a source of remorse for them on the Day of Resurrection.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
No sooner does a servant commit a sin and feels remorse afterwards, than Allah forgives him even before he [verbally] seeks forgiveness, and no sooner does Allah bestow a favor upon a servant and he acknowledges its being from Allah than Allah forgives him even before he thanks Allah for it.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
"By Allah! None will be delivered from his sin except the one who admits it." He also said: "Remorse suffices as repentance. [The core element of repentance is remorse]."

Imam Ali (as):
Repentance stands on four pillars: remorse with the heart, asking for forgiveness with the tongue, work with the limbs, and resolve not to repeat [the offense].
