إِنَّ الدُّنْيَا دَارٌ أَوَّلُهَا عَنَاءٌ وَ آخِرُهَا فَنَاءٌ فِي حَلَالِهَا حِسَابٌ وَ فِي حَرَامِهَا عِقَابٌ مَنِ اسْتَغْنَى فِيهَا فُتِنَ وَ مَنِ افْتَقَرَ فِيهَا حَزِنَ.

Imam Ali (as):

Verily this world is a house which begins with hardship and ends with annihilation, in its lawful things there is accountability and there is punishment in its unlawful things, he who is rich in it is tested and he who is poor lives in grief.
