Today in Ramadhan (19) - The assassination of Imam Ali (a.s.).

Tonight is the night of the nineteenth of Ramadan and there is a chance it might be the night of Qadr which is why it is highly recommended to spend the night with worship, veneration and seeking forgiveness.

Al-Zabūr (psalms) of prophet Davud (as) is the fourth divine book which was descended in the month of Ramadan and contains wise sayings, recommendations and supplications.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

فيما قال اللَّه عزّ و جلّ لموسى «ع»: يا موسى ... و اعلم أنّ كلّ فتنة بدؤها حبّ الدّنيا ...

Part of what Allah said to Moses (as): O Moses, …Know that the starting point of every temptation and trouble is the love of this world.

وَجَدْتُ عِلْمَ النَّاسِ كُلَّهُ فِي أَرْبَعٍ: أَوَّلُهَا: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ رَبَّكَ، وَ الثَّانِي: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ مَا صَنَعَ بِكَ، وَ الثَّالِثُ: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ مَا أَرَادَ مِنْكَ‏، وَ الرَّابِعُ: أَنْ تَعْرِفَ مَا يُخْرِجُكَ مِنْ‏ دِينِكَ.

الْمُؤْمِنُونَ خَدَمٌ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ فَقُلْتُ كَيْفَ يَكُونُ خَدَمٌ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ قَالَ نَفَقَتُهُمْ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

مَنْ لَمْ يَحْسُبْ‏ كَلَامَهُ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كَثُرَتْ خَطَايَاهُ، وَ حَضَرَ عَذَابُهُ.

One who does not count his speech as part of his deeds his mistakes will increase and his punishment will draw near.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

عنه عليه السلام : إنّ خَيْرَ ما وَرَّثَ الآباءُ لأبنائهِمُ الأدبُ لا المالُ ، فإنّ المالَ يَذهبُ و الأدبَ يَبقى.

Verily the best inheritance parents bequeath their progeny are good manners, not wealth, for wealth goes away but good manners stay.

اِجعَلْ قَلبَكَ قَرينا بَرّا ، أو وَلَدا واصِلاً ، وَ اجعَلْ عَمَلَكَ والِدا تَتَّبِعُهُ ، وَ اجعَلْ نَفسَكَ عَدُوّا تُجاهِدُها ، وَ اجعَلْ مالَكَ عارِيَةً تَرُدُّها .
