Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Verily when someone dies, Allah sends an angel to the most grieved members of his family, who strokes their hearts and makes them forget the agony of grief, and if it were not for this, the world would never again thrive.

Imam Ali (as):
Abandoning sin is easier than asking for forgiveness. Many a desire of one moment brings about long-lasting grief. Death exposes the world and leaves no joy for those who possess reason.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Tranquility and comfort lie in satisfaction and certainty, whereas worry and sorrow lie in doubt and dissatisfaction.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
He whose sustenance is delayed must increase his proclamation of Allah s greatness, and he who worries and frets much [about his livelihood] must increase his seeking of forgiveness.

Imam Ali (as):
Those who restrain themselves from worldly pleasures are such that their hearts are weeping though outwardly they may laugh, they experience great sorrow though they display joy, and they are filled with self-contempt though they rejoice at all that they have been bestowed.

Imam Ali (as):
Asceticism is summed up in two phrases in the Qur'an, where Allah, most High, says, "So that you may not grieve for what has escaped you, nor be exultant at what He has given you." Therefore, one who neither grieves about past losses nor is overjoyed about the possessions he is granted has perfected his asceticism from both sides.
