Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

إِذَا اتَّهَمَ الْمُؤْمِنُ أَخَاهُ انْمَاثَ‏ الْإِيمَانُ مِنْ‏ قَلْبِهِ، كَمَا يَنْمَاثُ الْمِلْحُ فِي الْمَاءِ.

A man complained to Imam al-Sadiq (as) that he sought livelihood and earned enough but that he was not satisfied and his self [Nafs] dispute...

أبعَدُ ما يكونُ العَبدُ مِن اللّهِ عَزَّ و جلَّ إذا لم يَهُمَّهُ إلاّ بَطنُهُ و فَرجُهُ .

إِنْ قَدَرْتَ أَنْ لَا تُعْرَفَ فَافْعَلْ وَ مَا عَلَيْكَ إِذَا لَمْ يُثْنِ النَّاس عَلَيْكَ وَ مَا عَلَيْكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مَذْمُوماً عِنْدَ النَّاسِ إِذَا كُنْتَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مَحْمُودا‏ .
