الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
سَادَةُ النَّاسِ فِي الدُّنْيَا الْأَسْخِيَاءُ وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ الْأَتْقِيَاءُ.

The masters of people in this world are the generous and in the hereafter the pious.

Those who plant seeds of goodness will harvest the fruits of popularity and will be well-liked by others. Kindness and generosity are the keys to winning people's hearts. Therefore, those who are generous and noble will achieve influence and be highly regarded.

However, the honor of the Hereafter is far more important and valuable. The criterion for superiority in the Hereafter is piety (taqwa). Piety is when a person is cautious, virtuous, diligent in their duties, avoids sin, and opposes their base desires. Taqwa in a person acts like breaks in a car, preventing accidents and falls into destruction. A good end belongs to the pious. This point is expressed in the Quran with the phrase, "And the end is for the righteous" (Hud 11:49 and Al-Qasas 28:83).

A saying similar to that of Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) has also been narrated from the Prophet (SAWA): "The source of honor in this world is wealth, and the honor of the Hereafter is piety" (Mizan al-Hikmah, Hadith 5650). Honor and dignity in this world come from wealth, but the honor of the Hereafter is based on piety. In the Hereafter, we are in greater need of honor and respect than in this world. Many gain status and fame in this world, whether justly or unjustly. However, in the Hereafter, the criterion for superiority and honor is solely piety, righteous deeds, and servitude to God. Let us be pious in this world so that we may be esteemed in the Hereafter.
